The basic requirements for any online project management tool should are:

  • Resource optimization to complete projects in time

  • Ability to update task easily

  • Early problem-detection to minimize work load and expenditure

  • Quick adaptation to instant changes in plan and implementation

I recommend that you consider these factors so that you choose the right project management software to manage your work.

Why should you read this?

I am writing this review to give you an insight of the excellent features of the Basecamp software, which is a popular project management tool. I will also show you how Basecamp comes out better in comparison to Tenrox online project management, &task and Clarizen project management tools.

Focus on organizational development

Basecamp is the world’s leading online Project Management Software that helps in project collaboration. It is a dynamic and versatile web-based project management tool that everyone from designers and developers to teachers and students can use with ease. It is a product founded by Jason Fried and launched by 37 Signals in February, 2004. I found it very easy to get used to this tool and efficiently manage and track multiple projects using it.

What you can expect from Basecamp

Team leaders have to be in total control to ensure an excellent end result. Basecamp had all the tools to do so and more. This popular online project management software provides every paid subscriber a centralized location from where the project leaders, team members and all the others who are part of the project team can upload and share files as well as review work from others. Clients are updated on the developments of the project. Leaders assign specific tasks to team members and monitor their work.

Pros:

Some of the things I really liked about the Basecamp project management software are:

  • Browser based, no software required

  • Intuitive and user-friendly interface.

  • Easy communication and collaboration

  • Ability to interact with clients.

  • Prevents the risk of undelivered emails and miscommunication.

  • Features to-do lists, messages, milestones, writeboards and chat on the internal dashboard.

  • Notable facility of time-tracking for each accomplished task.

  • Permissions system that lets people view specific projects.

  • Centralized documentation, so files can be shared by all the team members.

  • Low price

  • Enhanced Security

  • Great customer support.

  • Reply to assignment emails

  • Android app

  • 30-day free trial is available.

Cons:

The software has a few drawbacks too:

  • Sign-up rules to be slightly complicated.

  • Use of whiteboard slightly bothersome.

  • Setting up the chat tool a little difficult.

  • Additional fee for the time tracking facility out of the way.

  • Software to have lesser number of features for the price when compared with less expensive or free alternatives.

My Overall Opinion:

I tried using other online project tools like Tenrox online project management, @task and Clarizen and found them to be equally good. They compete with Basecamp in every aspect. However, I will still say that Basecamp is one step ahead of these others just because it is much simpler to use.

Based on my experience, Basecamp is ideally meant for individuals and small businesses, but I will not exaggerate if I say that companies of all sizes can use it to get the maximum benefit of project collaboration. Big name brands still make use of Basecamp and to much success. Using Basecamp has tremendously helped in increasing the productivity of my team by taking project collaboration and putting it online in a simple easy to use format.

Conclusion: Focus on development and efficiency and the importance given to customers’ feedback have resulted in 3,000,000 users of Basecamp within six years despite tough competition. Their pricing is justified by the fact that people are ready to pay more for good value. You can count on Basecamp for an excellent performance in meeting your project requirements. I rate it as the number one online project management software. If you want to get your projects under control, Go for it! Luckily Basecamp offers a 30 Day Free Trial so you can see if it is right for you.
